Vitamin A Cream Helps Reduce Natural Skin Aging Wrinkles

A report published in ‘Archives of Dermatology’, one of the JAMA/Archives journals says that wrinkles associated with natural aging can be reduced by Vitamin A Cream. It also reported that it may help in promoting the production of skin-building compounds.

The study was conducted on 36 elderly people. The researchers used a lotion containing 0.4 percent retinol. They applied it on the right or left upper inner arms of the participants and lotion containing no retinol on the other arm three times a week, for 24 weeks.

The researchers carefully studied roughness of skin and wrinkles before beginning the treatment and after the treatment. At the end of the study the researchers found that roughness of skin, overall aging severity and wrinkles were dramatically reduced in the retinol treated arms compared with the no-retinol treated arms. Retinol also increased the production of glycosaminoglycan and procollagen, structural components of the skin.

The researchers concluded that: “Topical retinol improves fine wrinkles associated with natural aging. Significant induction of glycosaminoglycan, which is known to retain with greater skin matrix synthesis (production of compounds that form new skin), retinol-treated aged skin is more likely to withstand skin injury and ulcer formation along with improved appearance.”
