Home / Wrinkles: Skin Needling Treatment for Wrinkles
Posted on August 24, 2009 in Uncategorized
Skin needling is a treatment in which a roller with fine-pointed needles is used to make microscopic punctures on the skin to promote the production of collagen and elastin – to make the skin firmer and smoother. This treatment can eliminate wrinkles on the face and neck, and can remove scars, stretch marks and skin discoloration.
How Does Skin Needling Reduce Wrinkles?
Skin needling treatment uses a roller which contains minute needles which are 1 to 3 mm long. The roller is passed over the face for about 6 times. During this process, tiny punctures are made to the epidermis and dermis. This will stimulate the release of fibroblasts and other growth factors, which promote the production of collagen and elastin. The production of collagen and elastin makes the skin firmer and eliminate the fine lines and wrinkles.
How Is Skin Needling Done?
Skin needling is done by a dermatologist who would apply an anesthetic cream on the area. The roller is passed back and forth over the skin. After this, the skin is covered with a Vitamin A gel.
Normal activities can be resumed after 48 hours. Application of vitamin A cream is generally recommended to help in the production of new skin. Over time, the skin can become firmer, smoother due to the production of collagen.
Unlike dermabrasion or laser resurfacing, this skin needling is minimally invasive as the epidermis is left intact. The results would be seen in about 3 months. If you are interested in skin needling for wrinkle treatment, speak to your dermatologist about this treatment.
