What are the signs of aging in women?

Women tend to age faster than men because they undergo various hormonal changes from puberty, then pregnancy and, at last menopause. Menopause brings many changes in women like change in complexion, loss of elasticity, and rejuvenation process reduces. This depends on 3 factors:

  1. Age
  2. Lifestyle
  3. Genetics

The following are the causes of aging.

  • Mass in muscle decreases on an average of about seven lbs per decade. This loss in weight increases after 45years.
  • Fat percentage in the body increases with increase in weight.
  • Energy, speed and strength decreases in the body.
  • Decrease in metabolism rate.
  • Aerobic capacity i.e., capability of processing oxygen decreases.
  • Percentage of red blood cells decreases at an average by 90years, but at 40 it is considered as anemia.
  • Resistance to insulin in body cells increases.
  • HDL cholesterol levels decreases and LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels increase.
  • Increase in blood pressure.
  • Decrease in bone mineral density.
  • Calcium density in circulatory system increases.
  • Functioning of kidney decreases.
  • Neurons are lost in brain. This leads to Parkinson’s, Senile and, Alzheimer’s dementia.
  • Vagus nerve deteriorates and hence the nervous system deteriorates.
  • Secretion of growth hormone also decreases.
  • Estrogen and progesterone levels drop in women.
  • Thyroid level decreases.
  • Melatonin hormone (regulates body clock) decreases.
  • Skin thickness decreases and wrinkles increases.
  • Proportion of water in body decreases and hence dryness in skin increases and more wrinkles.
  • Hearing capability drops.
  • Hair falls and also loses color.
  • Eye vision decreases.
  • Sense of taste also drops i.e., all tastes are similar.
  • Brain, liver and some critical organs shrink in size and their functioning is affected.
  • Increase in inflammation.
  • Blood flow velocity decreases.
  • Scarcity in deep sleep.
  • Decrease in night vision.
  • Eye retina becomes thinner.
