Anti Aging Compounds

Anti aging compounds serve to reverse the process of aging. They help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Some of the compounds help in producing collagen and hyaluronic acid in the body. This article describes about the compounds that can be applied topically.

Topically Applied Anti Aging Compounds

Ascorbic acid:

It is a vital organic acid that possesses antioxidant properties in it. It is also called as vitamin C. It occurs in several different forms such as ascorbyl glucoside, ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbyl palmitate. This vitamin is essential for collagen synthesis within the body. Topical use of this vitamin helps to prevent aging. About 3% of this vitamin when used on the skin helps in protecting from free radical damage. It reduces wrinkles to about 5 to 17% and is known to increase the production of skin protein elastin.

Co enzyme Q10:

It is also called as ubiquinone. It is a naturally occurring compound in every cell and plays a role of an antioxidant. It is vital for neutralizing free radicals that damage the skin. Higher levels of it when applied, enhances collagen and elastin production. It is effective in penetrating deep into the epidermal layers. Thereby, minimizing deep wrinkles and fine lines.

N acetyl glucosamine:

It is an amino acid that is important for maintaining and forming of the body tissue. It helps in increasing collagen and hyaluronic acid production in the body. It is necessary for moisture retention within the skin.

These are compounds that are derived from vitamin A. Functional form of vitamin A is called as retinoic acid and is effective for preventing aging. Forms of this vitamin include retinaldehyde and retinyl propionate. Topical application of retinoids help in increasing the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen. About less than 1% of retinoids when applied on the skin helps in reducing facial lines and roughness.

Salicylic acid:

It is derived from beta hydroxy acids. It is helpful in ex-foliating skin and improves skin texture. It is known to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Other antioxidants:

Antioxidants such as tocopherol, lutein and alpha lipoic acid are effective for protecting skin cells from oxidative damage. Topical application of these antioxidants diminishes wrinkles.

Sunscreens should contain avobernzone, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide in it. These sunscreens serve to protect from the harmful sun rays that damage the skin.

These are some of the anti aging compounds that are necessary for maintaining a young looking and radiant skin.
